“Everything is within striking distance. It is easy to walk to a Rockies game and then dinner at Osteria Marco. And no parking issues!”

LoDo is full of Wild West history whose latest chapter epitomizes the best of urban renewal projects. From its settlement by claim jumpers in the 1800s through its “skid row” period to its current glory, LoDo represents the best of urban energy and revitalization.

The LoDo (Lower Downtown) Historic District was formed in 1988 in an effort to stop the demolition of past decades. 127 historic structures are now preserved and a zoning ordinance restricts building heights and mandates design guidelines. The 23 square block area is the original city of Denver and houses some of the city’s most famous sites, including Coors Field (home of the Rockies), Historic Larimer Square (a must see!) and Union Station (one of the oldest buildings in Denver, soon to experience massive redevelopment).

Over the past 20 years, developers have converted old warehouses into unique loft residences and Denver’s brightest architects have created interesting, innovative new buildings that have attracted an eclectic mix of urban dwellers. Gardeners and stargazers will appreciate the many roof top terraces and sunny balconies.

Old and young residents alike feel a great sense of pride in their neighborhood. Coffee houses, restaurants and bars (can be noisy!) along with museums, galleries and easy access to every major league sporting event make for something to do any night of the week. Many residents walk or light rail to work. And ironically, outdoor enthusiasts will find everything and more in this downtown neighborhood with easy access to the fabulous Cherry Creek trail system and the flagship REI store.
