"We love walking to Bonnie Brae Ice Cream in the summer and then to our library, especially on Saturdays for the special events.  And we love catching up with our neighbors at Circle Park."

Pretty, old homes.  Picturesque, curvy streets.  Mature trees.  Ideal location just east of Washington Park.  Designed to replicate a quaint Scottish Village, Bonnie Brae is THE neighborhood of choice for many discriminating home buyers. Picture perfect English Tudors, Ranches, Cape Cods and International Styles all are plentiful.  And like many other old Denver neighborhoods, developers have managed to scrape some of the old, charming homes to make way for new builds (especially south of Mississippi).

Bonnie Brae (which means Pleasant Hill in Gaelic) came to life in 1923.  The depression slowed initial growth, but soon thereafter the neighborhood sprung back to life.  The original developer was inspired by a peaceful, tree-filled neighborhood named Bonnie Brae in Kansas City. He borrowed the name and the feel when creating Denver’s version.  The first businesses on the 700 Block of South University opened their doors in the 30s, including the venerable Bonnie Brae Tavern which has been serving Denver’s best thin crust pizza for 85 years!

Today, the old section of Bonnie Brae with its winding streets is the most coveted. Homes surrounding Elipse Park are especially charming.  There are quite a few busy streets that cut through the neighborhood, best to avoid these.  Local residents love that they can walk to their quaint block of commerce that offers ice-cream, flowers, dry cleaner, wine-shop, library and some of Denver’s best restaurants.
